Another
distinctive of the Classical Christian School is the emphasis
on teaching the biblical concept of self-discipline. God is not
so rigid as to require that one person must do things in exactly
the same way as another person in all areas of life; this is
a biblical understanding of Christian liberty.
However, Christian liberty is not license. Therefore, when set
rules have been established and agreed to by way of a contract/covenant,
our duty as Christians is to obey those rules as one in authority
over us, even in those things which seem trivial. At Newnan Classical
School, we do take our behavior before God and man seriously,
yet our goal as a school is to address the condition of the heart
and not merely the outward behavior.
The
Bible teaches that man sins because he is a sinner. Therefore,
children must learn both of the Justice of God in that He hates
sin, and the Mercy of God in that He graciously pardons the sins
of those who call on Him in faith, through His Son Jesus Christ.
Another way of summing up this condition is to say that if a
child's heart is not inclined to respect and honor man, (whom
they can see), how then will they ever learn to respect and honor
their Father who is in heaven, (whom they cannot see)?
